Learning

Teaching is one of WCB's core values, and therefore most of the activities are focused on online courses.

Teaching can support live teaching or the other way around. The quality of the matter is agreed with the organizer of each elementary course. If the club is not organizing a lesson, we follow the WCB curriculum.

We provide basic information online because it is easier to teach and learn here. Self-study and playing can also be done at any time.

  • One teacher can control a large group of students.

  • Participating in lessons is easy from home.

  • The lessons of the courses are held twice, so students have the choice of which one to attend. Participation in both lessons is allowed.

  • All teaching material is located after the lesson on the course website. Students can look at the contents of written materials and lesson videos afterwards.

The Finnish model of hobby

The Ministry of Education has createdThe Finnish model of hobby- project, which organizes refreshing hobby opportunities for children during study holidays.

The WCB Club Bridge online club has been approved as a hobby teacher and game organizer.

Ask the principal of your school if it is possible to include bridge in your school's activities.

Teaching material from the Swedish Federation

I have received a huge amount of teaching material from Micke Melander, the author of the Swedish Bridge Association, which I will use as my teaching material after the translation. The material consists of twenty less than one-hour lessons.

Spring 2021 Advanced course 1

We gained good experience from one of the Advanced Courses we organized in the spring. In other words, "all" children's diseases have now been cured and our skills in online teaching are on point.

After stumbling at the beginning, the course went well and all 40 of our students were satisfied. We also received a lot of personal praise.

About the courses

The courses are divided according to the students' skill level into four different parts:

  • Elementary course 1 and 2

  • Advanced course  1 and 2

The basic idea of all courses is to provide players with enough information to make the game interesting. As you play, your experience and vision grow. They even feel part of the sharing and thirst for more information.

The number of lessons depends on the content to be taught. Each lesson lasts 2-3 hours.

The courses are described below, although more detailed information such as course programs, contents and who the course is intended for can be found on the pages of each course.

Elementary courses

(Each title serves as a link to the course website)

Beginner course 1

As the name suggests, the course is intended for absolute beginners and people interested in the game.

The course mainly focuses on playing. Let's talk about the most common openings, go through the point strengths for different games, take a look at cuts and briefly game moves.

There is no age limit for the courses, because learning depends so much on the person.

Elementary course 2

Players from the previous course who are still interested in Bridge continue to this course. The courses are separated so that potential distractions - players who are no longer interested in bridge or who found it too difficult - would not be included.

The course is already a bit more demanding, including a simplified system from SAYC. In addition, let's lightly delve into game play, defense and starting cards.

Advanced courses

Advanced courses are intended for people who have already played for several years and who want to deepen their knowledge.

Advanced course 1

This course is intended for those who have already mastered Bridge properly. About 1-2 years of intensive playing below offers good opportunities to continue studying Bridge.

We deepen our knowledge in all aspects of Bridge. We do not actually go through the bidding system in this course, but it is part of the Elementary Course 2 teaching material.

Advanced course 2

The content of the course mostly covers various system development tools / conventions. In game introductions, we guide you to different blackmail models and deepen the importance of playing cards in defense.

Different areas of Bridge have been taken for the lessons and since some may already be familiar to the players, we give the opportunity to participate in the lessons he wants.  Each lesson is priced separately for a few euros.

What the courses include

  • Participating in the lessons is easy using the link on the front page of the course. The same link works for all courses and their lessons.

  • The lesson also includes playing with RealBridge. In this way, teaching is almost like live teaching. (You can get directions to RealBridgethisby clicking the link)

  • Teaching can be enhanced with the help of Kahoot surveys/guidance.

  • The teaching also includes the teacher playing with the FunBridge and BBO robots from the websites. At the same time, the teacher tells about his observations and what he does and why he does it.

  • If necessary, there is also guidance from the above-mentioned websites.
